- Two of Sonja's Stories, one about Daniel and his dad, and the other one about her husband's father, have been accepted by Patchwork Path: Dad's Bowtie, and will be on sale soon!
- "Letting the Light Shine," a story about the tradition of advent Sonja experienced as a child in Germany will soon be published in the anthology, Christmas Traditions.
- You can now read the story, "The Van," and "Mary," a chapter of Tightrope!, in the literary magazine Literal Translations..
- Sonja's two short stories, "The Lie," and "Returning Home," are now published in the PDF magazine Flash Me on the Winged Halo website. Check them out!
- An essay, called "Hot Flashes," can now be read in the July edition of the women's magazine, Sasee. To read it, click on the link above.
- "An Uncommon Life," the story about Sonja's mother's travels with the carnival while raising six children, will be published in the book, Wisdom of Our Mothers: Things that Mother Taught Me. Look for it in October!
- "A Time for Healing," A creative non-fiction story about healing old wounds between a mother and child, will be published in the book, I didn't Get Old Being Stupid, slated for publication the end of 2008.
- "Letting the Light Shine," is a story about the tradition of advent Sonja experienced as a child in Germany. It was accepted by the anthology, Christmas Traditions: True Stories of Holiday Celebration, which should be on the market by November 2008.
- Sonja's flash fiction, "Returning Home," won Honorable Mention at the Glimpse Flash Fiction Contest. Read it here - "Returning Home."
- An essay, called, "What I Believe," is published on the This I Believe website. Check it out here! This I Believe
- Sonja has lived for three years on the Navajo reservation in southern Utah. Her essay about her experiences teaching on the reservation has won first price in the Preservation Foundation's Non-Fiction Travel Story Contest. Read her story at storyhouse.org.

- A children's story, based on Dale Chihuly's "Persian Windows" glass artwork is appropriately called, Persians. It was accepted by the Delaware Art Museum's "The Art of Storytelling" project, which combines art with stories. The story is now out on the web at The Art of Storytelling and will also be told by a professional storyteller to the children visiting the museum.
- Both pieces, together with the essay, "My Mother," which won first prize in the same contest in December 2005, have been published in the book, Prize Winning Stories.
- A creative non-fiction essay about the first time Sonja bought a vehicle after her divorce, "The Van," won fourth prize in the Alabama Writer's Conclave Writing Contest. It is featured in the Alabama Writer's online literary magazine, Alalit.
- In April 2006, chapter ten of Sonja's memoir, titled, "Tschilper," won Finalist in the M Review Writing Contest. Read it in the literary online magazine M Review.
- The prologue of Cross and Carnival, titled, "My Mother," won first prize at the Joyous Publishing Writing Contest in December 2005. Click here to read it: Cross and Carnival. This biographical piece has also been published in the book Prize-Winning Stories in January 2007.
- The short short story, "Lies," won honorable mention in the Neb Publishing short story writing contest.

A true story, "Pretty Maidens," about Sonja, her children, and her garden, will appear in the near future in the magazine Greenprints.
